Energy log
How much energy does my Claude use take?
I use Claude a lot for my research and side projects. I want to be mindful about my energy consumption, and I'm curious what all those tokens add up to. This page estimates it week by week from the tokens Claude Code logs, and sets it beside everyday things.

Where the energy goes
Each week split by what the tokens were doing (central estimate). Long sessions re-read their whole history with every reply.

- New context (fresh input and cache writes)
- Writing replies and thinking (output)

How it's worked out
Claude Code records the tokens of every response on my computer. A script adds them up by day and model, and only those totals are published: no prompts, replies or project names. Tokens are weighted by Anthropic's list prices, as a stand-in for the computing work behind them, and scaled so that a typical chatbot answer (about 1,000 tokens in, 500 out) takes 0.3 Wh, the figure published estimates converge on. Nobody publishes per-token energy for Claude, so the range runs from three times lower to three times higher.
It counts Claude Code only (not chats on claude.ai or in the app), and only running the model: not training it, the hardware or my own computer. The code, the data and every assumption, with sources, are on GitHub.
